Niya Doynova
I am level C1 in English listening, reading, spoken production and interaction, writing; mother tongue Bulgarian. I am last year student at the American College of Sofia where I took English Second Language Intensive Course, English Language and Literature, and Translation. The English Second Language Intensive Course focused on perfecting
grammar skills, expanding vocabulary, and developing English writing, reading, listening, and speaking in general. It provided me with the opportunity to be a literate writer and an inspirational speaker by knowing how to use the depths of the language. The focus of studying English Language and Literature Course was embelishing my skills of analyzing pieces of literature by looking closely and critically at the linguistic specifics, the particular and distinct style of the author, and the details of the work as a whole. The course included units on poetry (consisting of reading, analyzing, and writing poetry myself), classic novel (from English and international authors as well), formal discussions (developing debating skills), essays (analytical, opinion, and research essays), short stories, English drama, project-based learning, and public speech. The Translation course covered the foundations of translation, strategies and techniques for excellent translation, and a focus on written translation. I learnt about and practiced translation from English to Bulgarian and from Bulgarian to English of many and diverse texts in different fields of study — fiction, poetry, science,
and numerous articles on any kinds of topics. I have been in President's List (GPA over 5.90) for all 4 years of high-school by now (8th, 9th, 10th, 11th
grades).
