Bringing a new product or service to today's super crowded marketplace without a clear marketing strategy is impossible. As an avid entrepreneur myself, I've had the chance to work on a dozen interesting companies, sometimes as a founder and sometimes as an employee. Over the years, I learned that great companies should always work very hard to understand their customers' needs, and if they did, customers could see it in their product. This made all the difference in the world because it meant sales and to some extent that meant success...

But is that the full recipe? Simply put, no.

Understanding the needs of your customers is just one of the pieces of the puzzle.

Making great products is the first one.

So, how are great, competitive products being made today and in the current economy?

Today making a great product means having good design, usability, functionality, simplicity, or in short - good user experience embedded on a fundamental level. If we connect all those product values and features with the current state of the digital world, you would get a Web 2.0 product. Here's what I mean:

"The Web will be understood not as screenfuls of text and graphics but as a transport mechanism, the ether through which interactivity happens. It will appear on your computer screen, on your TV set, your car dashboard, your cell phone, hand-held game machines, maybe even your microwave oven."

What does that mean and why is it so important?

The above cited is no longer fiction or imagination, it's happening now and in your daily life. Making great products today is no longer just about the products themselves, It's about molding how people connect with them, how people interact with them, and where that happens.

My job as a Product Marketing Manager is to provide that understanding and to apply it to anything related to your product's success whether it's an internal or external factor.
